Moving provides you an amazing opportunity to declutter your things!
Let’s face it, no matter how big or small your space is, packing up your entire life in boxes is going to take some time. The less you have to actually put in boxes the less time you’ll spend packing them. Furthermore, the less boxes you have the less time and money you’ll be wasting.
Start small. Make 3 boxes and begin with one room, one closet.
Label your boxes: toss, donate, and sell.
One person’s junk is another person’s treasure, however, items that are broken, torn, or missing pieces should go in the toss box. Items that someone else may potentially want are perfect for the donation box. (Some of the local donation places such as Goodwill or the Salvation Army will come and pick up your donations.) If you’re not a savvy online seller it could end up costing you more time and headache and you may not want to go that route. However, for big ticket items like a couch it may be a viable option.
Sentimental value haunts all of our closets. However, you have to try to focus on what you have the time and space for. The sweater that one of your friends gave you in high school that’s been in the back of the closet for 2 years collecting dust is dying to break out of there and make it into your donation box. If it is damaged it’s time to say goodbye and toss it in the trash. If you haven’t used it in 6 months, you’re probably not going to miss it. And if you have haven’t worn it in a year it’s time to donate it. Think of the extra room you’ll have for some new exciting pieces.
